About the Event
This event is being offered by one of the Living Leadership Associates, Dave Burke, in partnership with Living Leadership.
We are keenly aware that mental health is important. But if we want to support people really well, we need evidence-based, accurate, knowledge and skills. The Youth Mental Health First Aid course will equip you with these.
Mental Health First Aid is a qualification recognised in over thirty countries. In about 16 hours of training you learn about maintaining good mental health, what makes people unwell and how best to support them.
The Adult course is focused on those who are over 18 years of age, the Youth course (this course) is on the ages 8 to 18, though there is significant overlap between the two.
Dave Burke, who has recently retired from almost forty years in pastoral ministry, has delivered over 100 of these courses. Many of them to churches and Christian charities applying the course material to those particular environments. The course is excellent for anyone who is pastorally active in a church.
We are offering the course online on four afternoons spread over a month.
Each participant receives printed course materials and access to regularly updated MHFA resources to support their pastoral work.
As with previous MHFA courses under the banner of Living Leadership we have a variable price structure like this:
- £35.00 - This just covers the cost of the course materials and online resources
- £79.00 - This covers more of the cost to Dave, such as compensating him for some of the time he spends preparing and delivering the course
- £99.00 - This would help Dave even more to cover his costs and support his ministry further
This will be the third MHFA course run for the Living Leadership community. Here is some feedback from previous courses:
“An excellent, informative and enjoyable course. I enjoyed the online sessions and I would say they were just about the right length. I learned some new information in each session and Dave (the tutor) was knowledgeable, engaging and good humoured. Overall, it was great!”
"The course was extremely helpful and worked surprisingly well online. The instructor had a great balance of humour and sensitivity and was a very good communicator. I felt the balance of listening, visual aids, and group activities had a perfect balance. This particular course was addressing those in church leadership and it was particularly helpful to have appropriate spiritual input. The handbook is a valuable resource. A great course and I will recommend to others.
This felt like absolutely essential training that everyone should undertake - I've already recommended the course to basically everyone I've seen since! Really practical, informative and accessible - I've come away feeling far more confident supporting others as well as looking after myself. Thank you!"
"A very helpful course with great manual and an engaging instructor who provided a mix of input from a conversational style of lecture, good use of whiteboard to illustrate and a mix of small group time. Overall I feel equipped and resourced to be better aware of and engaged with mental health conversations/support"
Please note: Places are limited, but if the course gets full please do sign up to the wait list. We will then be able to contact you if a place comes available, or if we are able to offer the course again at a different time.
N.B. Living Leadership is not receiving any financial benefit or commission from this event. All payments will go directly to Dave Burke to help him cover the costs of the event and provide for him in his ministry.
